Guest Speaker:  Gretchen Detora, children’s author.
Today we had the opportunity to learn more about Gretchen Detora, a local children’s author.  Gretchen is a wife, mother, author of children’s stories and an Instructional Assistant at South Elementary School in Andover, MA.  As an author, Gretchen writes her children’s stories with the intention of inspiring others to find positive solutions in everyday life.  This has been Gretchen’s focus in her own life as well.  While raising her son Ryan, she taught him the importance of giving back to others and how just one person can make a difference in the world.  Gretchen also brings this important message to her students at South Elementary School.  It is her hope that the positive messages in her stories will reach many more.  This is Gretchen’s first book, which she self-published through Mascot Books.
The book Gretchen brought in today, “Dave and Danny Pay It Forward” is dedicated to the memory of David Vaughan, who died in an automobile accident in September of 2013.  The story is about a dad who lead by example, was involved in the community as well as a loving dad, husband and mentor.  Money raised from the book goes to a trust fund in David’s name for his three children.
